Homeless people loiter outside of the Street Roots building on W Burnside. In 2024, this new headquarters for the social justice newspaper Street Roots included a robust renovation of the historic 1926 Wax Building in Portland’s Old Town. The building features trauma-informed design principles, a resource center with a coffee bar, and is a visible location aimed at centralizing support for marginalized individuals and increasing community connection.
